Smarter Power Testing with HPS17000 and Symplify Now!

HPS17K and Symplify Now!

Together, HPS17000 and Symplify Now! redefine what’s possible in energy testing, delivering faster and more accurate validation for battery systems, power electronics, and energy storage technologies.

Product overview

NI HPS 17000

When your team is pushing the boundaries of energy innovation, you need hardware that responds in microseconds and software that adapts to your workflow. The HPS17000 Bidirectional Power Supply delivers up to 150kW, 1,500V, and 480A. Built on a SiC-based digital amplifier and controlled via FPGA, it offers 10µs update and logging rates, making it ideal for high-speed transients, battery cycling, fuel cell validation, and advanced cleantech testing.

NI HPS 17000

Symplify Now! for HPS17000

To control the HPS17000, Synovus designed a new version of its flagship software Symplify Now! that transforms the HPS17000 into a fully automated test system. With intuitive manual controls modeled after the NHR-9300 UI, built-in automated test execution that can also extend to NI TestStand and real-time closed-loop control (requires NI PXI RT), Symplify Now! empowers engineers to run repeatable tests, stream waveform and log data at up to 100kS/s in TDMS format.

Key Features

NI HPS 17000

  • SiC-based digital amplifier – High efficiency and extremely fast response rate technology integrated in easily serviceable modules to maximize testing uptime.
  • Time-Sensitive Networking – This technology enables synchronized parallel operations up to 900kW and synchronized measurements from NI DAQ and CAN (NI XNET) for more accurate and more repeatable results

Symplify Now! with HPS 17000 support

  • Simple Setup and manual controls – Similar to the NHR-9300 UI for user familiarity, you can get started with CC/CV charge cycles and real-time monitoring in no time.
  • High accuracy test profile – Simulate dynamic conditions with macros up to 1 million points at 10µs resolution. Standard drive profiles from SAE/EPA can be easily be performed at 10ms resolution.
  • Real-time closed-loop control (pHIL) – Integrate your own closed loop control by leveraging NI PXI Real-Time controller deployment option. This also enables analog control of HPS to act as a digital amplifier.
  • Open-source for customization - Similar to all Synovus products and solutions, customers have the option to modify the source code to add custom user interface or drivers to proprietary instruments.

Use Cases

  • Battery and fuel cell testing – Symplify Now! lets you run any sequence of tests with the NI HPS 17000. 150kW (parallelable to >900kW) and 1,500V to support research and validation on the next generation of battery packs.
  • DC/DC converter and inverter validation – Add arbitrary transients to your test profiles or perform closed loop control to test any DC bus condition.
  • Energy storage simulation – The HPS 17000 can be used with our software to act as a battery simulator. This makes the HPS ideal for EV charger validation, DC motor and other loads testing.
  • High-speed transient and impedance spectroscopy (EIS) – The HPS and Symplify Now! can perform Pack level EIS with tightly synchronized control and measurements of the DC bus. Coupled with TSN NI DAQ modules, individual modules and cells within the pack can also be accurately monitored.
